The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presented King Eddie Murphy with the prestigious Mark Twain Prize in Washington last night.
Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, George Lopez, Cathy Griffin, Arsenio Hall, and Tracy Morgan were just some of the comedians there to honour King Murphy as an American Icon. Morgan delivered an emotional speech, saying,
“He’s the reason I’m in comedy. He’s the reason I have a job. He’s the reason I have a career. He’s my comedic hero.”
King Murphy said the prize was a “tremendous honour”, but hilariously asked the center to clarify,
“Actually, it’s an award, but they call it a prize. Usually when there’s a prize, there’s money.”
The tribute will air on PBS on the twenty-third day of November.
